I shoot people....with a Nikon.

I've always really enjoyed taking pictures. I've never been great at it, and I've never really taken it seriously. I've just gone out with a camera and had fun. Unfortunately, I've never had anything nicer than a point and shoot small enough to put in my purse.

Michael and I have been shopping cameras since we found out we were expecting- what better time to get a new camera then when you're going to be taking tons of pictures of your baby?? We knew from research we wanted a Nikon, Canon or Sony digital SLR camera. My dad bought a Canon (35 mm, of course) when I was born, and the camera is still alive and kicking, still taking great pictures, even though it's almost (gasp!) 30.

After months of looking, we finally purchased a Nikon D5100, which was just released in April.
The camera, which I'm still learning how to use, has all sorts of neat settings and features. My favorite is the color selection setting.

This is Emorie's bear, in black and white,
with the pink ribbon selected.

A flower vase in our kitchen. I selected the green leaves,
and as a result, you are able to see the green leaves,
green vase, and the little green light on our electrical outlet...
wasn't planning on selecting the outlet.

If you're in the market for a camera, I highly recommend Ritz Camera. The folks there are very knowledgeable and will happily tell you the pros and cons of each camera. We learned early on shopping cameras in a big box electronics store usually meant sales professionals with no idea about the features of the camera. You also get free editing software and four free camera classes. I don't know if we'll be able to take advantage of the classes, but I hope we are. We also took advantage of the Ritz Pix network- I have been using Shutterfly and Walgreens to develop my pictures, and I'm not always pleased with the picture quality. Ritz uses professional paper and the results are much better.

Looking forward to posting more fun pictures soon!
